Dear Members of the Musician's Association,

I am very happy to have been elected to a Board Member at Large position for Local 76. I ran for office because I felt the Musician's Association could be a lot more pro-active, focused and energetic.

I have listed below some things that I think the Association could do to strengthen itself and make it work better for its membership.  When I take office in January I plan to present my ideas to the rest of the board.

The Association could:

--promote the Association through online advertisement, flyers at local music stores, and radio interviews to attract more business for freelance musicians and to attract more members to the union itself

--have a presence at local music festivals

--ensure that the Business Representative is actually working to represent freelance musicians not just working on collective bargaining agreements

--staff the union booth at wedding shows with engaging, energetic individuals with a working knowledge of salesmanship and a commitment to getting gigs for the members

--ensure that the interests of musicians are represented when the King County Council is making political endorsements

--conduct an annual survey to gauge member satisfaction with the Association (the survey should be anonymous to ensure the privacy of its members and honesty in responses)
